Irishman Alan Ryan has developed the AH Bloodstock brand in the Australian market from his base in Stawell, Victoria. 

 

Alan’s progression in the thoroughbred game in the southern hemisphere is the culmination of nearly two decades of hard work. In his early teenage years, he was a track rider for Irish champion trainer Aidan O’Brien, whose star colts over the years have helped sustain the Coolmore Stud empire in Ireland beyond.

 

Alan moved to the United States where he spent a decade working between being a professional jockey, work rider and breaker in the green pastures of Kentucky and the sunshine of California.

 

He envisaged a long term path for success in the sport in the area of bloodstock where he has enjoyed some golden days including the sale of stakes winner Thewayyouwish in France.

 

Alan travelled to Australia in 2022 and within 18 months he sourced a training facility to pursue his passion of breaking and pre-training young horses. 

 

Before developing the training facility in western Victoria, Alan had his first attempt as a vendor in Australia at the 2023 Inglis Ready2Race sale. Under the AH Bloodstock banner, Alan consigned Sound Waves, a son of freshman sire Microphone, to Sydney trainer Amanda Turner for $120,000.

Alan’s partner in the AH Bloodstock operation is fellow Irishman Harry Hatton. Despite only being involved in the sport since 2022, Harry has invested his time with Alan in the sale of future racehorses.

 

They began their bloodstock business with the sale of a filly by Irish classic winner Awtaad at the Arqana Summer sale in France in 2022. Despite only receiving a low return for the filly, the duo partnered again a year later with the sale of Sound Waves in Sydney. 

 

Alan and Harry’s target is to develop their training facility at Stawell while also continuing to consign future racehorses with the 2024 Inglis Ready2Race sale the primary target.
